Welcome to HistoryZ
Have you ever gone down a history rabbit hole at 2am and ended up somewhere completely unexpected? That’s exactly how HistoryZ was born.
My name is Halil, and I’m a history enthusiast based in Turkey. I’m not a professor or an academic — I’m just someone who fell in love with the past and never quite recovered. I grew up surrounded by history. Living in Turkey means you can’t throw a stone without hitting something ancient. Hittite ruins, Byzantine churches, Ottoman mosques, Greek temples — it’s all here, layered on top of each other like a giant historical sandwich.
Why I Started HistoryZ
For years, I devoured history books, visited archaeological sites, and had long conversations with archaeologist friends over tea. But I kept running into the same problem: the stories I found most exciting — the forgotten ones, the overlooked ones, the ones that changed everything — were buried in academic papers that nobody reads, or missing from textbooks entirely.
I wanted a place where those stories could breathe. A place where history felt like a conversation between friends, not a lecture. That’s HistoryZ.
Every article I write starts with a genuine question I couldn’t shake. Why did one battle in a remote valley change the course of information technology? How did a civilization survive in the Sahara for a thousand years? What really happened to the Minoans? These aren’t just historical curiosities — they’re windows into who we are and how we got here.
What You’ll Find Here
HistoryZ covers world history across eight categories:
- Ancient History — civilizations that shaped the foundations of our world
- Medieval History — the complex, often misunderstood middle ages
- Modern History — the revolutions, wars, and movements that created today
- World Wars — the conflicts that redrew every map on Earth
- Empires & Civilizations — how great powers rose, ruled, and fell
- Historical Figures — the people behind the events
- Battles & Conflicts — the turning points of military history
- Mysteries of History — the questions that still keep historians up at night
Each article is written in plain language, with real personal anecdotes, verified sources, and a genuine attempt to connect the past to the present. No Wikipedia rewrites. No dry summaries. Just real history, told honestly.
My Promise to You
Every article on HistoryZ is carefully researched and written with one goal: to make you feel something. Curiosity, surprise, maybe a little awe. History is not a collection of dates — it’s a collection of human decisions, human emotions, and human consequences. And every one of those stories deserves to be told properly.
If you read something here that sends you down your own 2am rabbit hole, my work is done.
Drop a comment, send a message, or just keep reading. I’m glad you’re here.
